How to Not Suck When Playing Overwatch

Overwatch is a multiplatform game and it’s available for the PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4 game consoles. It is slowly becoming one of the best games of 2016.

In fact, during its launch, there were reportedly 7 million players who have bought a copy of the game and played it to their hearts’ content.

Overwatch is a first-person shooting game and it borrows some elements from Team Fortress 2 in that there is an emphasis on team play.

Since it has this game mechanic, in order to win, you need to follow the rules of the game, which sadly, not a lot of people are following them. This, in turn, makes them a bad Overwatch player.

In today’s article, I will share with you some tips so that you will not suck as an Overwatch player and play the game as it is intended to be played.

  1. Always have the right team composition. Overwatch is one of those games that puts heavy emphasis on team play. And when I say team play, I mean that your team composition has to be good. There are different characters that have different roles. These characters are divided by their typical roles such as offense, defense, tank, and support. If you see that your other team members are using all of the above roles, except for one, then choose that role to make the team composition better. For example, most people do not like using support characters. That is fine and understandable. But if you want to win, you have to bite the bullet and choose a support character to make your team balanced. Remember, balance is key; your team has to be composed of different classes.
  2. Ditch the Kill:Death ratio. People who play FPS games such as CS:GO is always engrossed with the idea of the Kill:death ratio. In Overwatch, even though there is a stat for that, you should never let that dictate how you play the game. If you’re just playing to rack up some kills, that doesn’t literally translate to winning games. So ask yourself: do you want to just get as many kills as possible? Or do you want to win the match?
  3. Learn the Mechanics of the Maps. Each map is different. There are some maps that require you to take a control point and there are some maps that require you to get and escort the payload. It is wise to familiarize yourself with the map and its mechanics. There are some characters that can benefit greatly from map mastery. Snipers can benefit greatly from this as well as long-range gunners like Pharah can benefit from map mastery as well.
  4. Don’t Rush the Objective. It is very tempting to just rush to the objective and finish the game as fast as possible, but that can be a recipe for disaster. Although it is very enticing to rush to the objective, wait to see which characters are defending. Some players are very good in hiding in obscure places and they can take you out without you noticing it. Make sure to check the vicinity first before you go to the objective.

Overwatch is a fun game but if you want to win and be competitive, these four tips should help you achieve that.
